Post Pharmacist Manager

Reports to Pharmacy Owner

Main purpose of the role:

The pharmacist manager will carry out day to day activities connected with the preparation and supply of medicines and will provide advice to patients on the use of medicines as well as on general health and lifestyle matters. The job holder will be responsible for the supervision and training of other pharmacy staff and will undertake activities that support the strategic objectives to maximise the profit and potential of the business.

Primary responsibilities:

 To abide by the RPSGB code of ethics and GPhC standards, observing and applying all professional, ethical and legal obligations;

 To implement and adopt standard operating procedures, to ensure procedures are in place for the avoidance of risk;

 To dispense prescription medicines to patients, checking dosage and ensuring that medicines are correctly and safely labeled and supplied;

 To supervise the safe preparation of any medicines;

 To ensure that all dispensing errors and near misses are logged in accordance with the company’s procedures and to undertake any activity necessary to rectify or prevent errors;

 To keep and maintain a register of controlled drugs for legal purposes;

 To liaise with doctors about prescriptions to ensure accuracy and prevent risk;

 To counsel and advise patients on the treatment of minor ailments and any adverse side-effects of medicines or potential interactions with other medicines/treatments to ensure safe use;

 To prepare monitored dosage and cassette box systems for the benefit patients;

 To provide specialist health check services, such as measuring and fitting compression hosiery, monitoring blood pressure and cholesterol levels, diabetes screening and pregnancy testing for the delivery of enhanced services to patients;

 To oversee the ordering and storage of medical products to ensure safety and reduce waste;

 To arrange the delivery of prescription medicines to patients who are unable to attend the pharmacy;

 To keep up-to-date with current pharmacy practice, new drugs and their uses for the purpose of continuing professional development;

 To maintain computerised records in accordance with data protection principles to ensure patient confidentiality;

 To ensure that all present and future NHS contractual obligations in respect of essential service are adhered to;

 To ensure that all present and future NHS contractual obligations with regard to essential services are adhered to, including waste management, self-care, signposting, public health and repeat dispensing.

Business responsibilities:

 To manage supervise and train pharmacy support staff to attain optimum performance;

 Attending management meetings reporting on KPIs set by the company.

 Managing health centre pharmacy and care home dispensing hub.

 To schedule labour effectively and communicate, direct and delegate to ensure that all employees operate as an effective team;

 To promote and sell appropriate products, such as toiletries, cosmetics and photographic items to increase profitability;

 To undertake budgeting and financial management activities to ensure rationalization of resources;

 To develop enhanced and extended services to grow the professional offerings of the business;

 To build and maintain relationships with other healthcare professionals, including GPs, GP surgery personnel, care home personnel, PCT personnel etc

Role Objective:

Responsibilities include:

 Ensure activities meet with and integrate with organisational requirements for quality management, health and safety, legal stipulations, environmental policies and general duty of care

 To provide advisory service on pharmaceutical matters to logistics staff, nurses, and customer services and to aid in responding to warehouse queries from patients and customers

 To participate in the training and development programme for Pharmacy and Nursing staff and other company personnel,

 To perform duties in compliance with specific service contracts

 To assist in the preparation of reports for the Company, customers and Pharmaceutical companies

 Evaluate opportunities and to increase overall clinical role of Pharmacist

 Develop Academic links with institutions to increase awareness and participate in research and development and clinical trials

 To participate in the rota for working Bank holidays as and when necessary

 To ensure the safe systems of work are practiced with due regard to Health and Safety, COSHH regulations and Guide to Good Distribution Practice

 To carry out any other reasonable duties defined by the Principal Pharmacist or Chief Pharmacist within the overall function, commensurate with the grading and level of responsibility of the job

- And in addition:

 To work closely with the Managed Care Team

 To work closely with nurses and NHS/Private Consultants/clinical staff in managing the patient’s treatment to include providing the most effective medicines in the most appropriate form

 Look at ways in reducing wastage by providing compounded items

 Remain abreast of changes in manufacturing practice and changes to stability information available

 Work closely with Derby University with regards to product testing and research

 Look at drug usage in cancer patients (medication reviews)

 To develop technician roles

 To participate in company wide training

 To support the assistants undertaking the technician course

Experience:

The role holder will have experience in the following:

 Registered Pharmacist with the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain

 Must have undertaken a postgraduate qualification in Oncology

Role Objective:

 To provide clinical clarification of ambiguous prescriptions submitted to the pharmacy and support to dispensing staff for interpretation during dispensing

 To perform final checking of dispensed items.

 To professionally oversee the operation of the department to ensure compliance to the standards and maintenance of Pharmacy registration.

 To provide excellent customer service to both prescription and retail customers.

 To accurately take payments from customers.

 To perform cashing up duties accurately.
