JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Pharmacist

HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 per week

LOCATION: Notting Hill

1. JOB PURPOSE: To produce clinically specific pharmaceuticals to order

To sell the services of the compounding pharmacy to GP’s and other healthcare professionals

To carry out all duties pertaining to the role of superintendant pharmacist

2. RELATIONSHIPS

Internal Relationships

Employees and directors of compounding pharmacy.

External Relationships

General Practitioners, secondary care physicians, healthcare professionals, RPSGB

3. CLINICAL / OPERATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• To provide Clinical Pharmacy Services to customers which includes review of the suitability of patient medication, provision of advice to patients, carers and medical, nursing staff, supply of medication, compliance to formulary, monitoring of ADRs, dosing, calculations and contra-indications.

• To visit doctors and inform them on the benefits of compounding, the products available through compounding, and the variety of existing medications which can be altered (in dosage strength, form, flavour etc) for patients who have unique requirements not met by standard medication as well as serving as the superintendent pharmacist and supervising the technician.

• The products to be compounded will initially be bio-identical hormones and aesthetic products. The pharmacist will need to be a good communicator, to work well without direct supervision, and to be able to clearly explain to doctors the uses and dosages of medications when they call to enquire (such information will be gained when the pharmacist is sent to the US for training)

• To maintain safe systems of work and the security of drugs

• To assist with the monitoring of the quality of clinical pharmacy and patient services

• To participate in the education and training for doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals on pharmaceutical issues

• To undertake audit and practice research projects as relevant to the post,

4. PERSONAL DEVELOPMENT

• All staff are required to be appraised by their line managers at least once a year at a personal development review meeting where progress made over the last year is discussed and agreed. Focus on the following year’s company and personal objectives will be identified, discussed and agreed. Where necessary, help and support will be provided and development opportunities agreed in line with service provision and knowledge and skills competency framework.

Any matters of a confidential nature, or in particular, information relating to diagnoses and treatment of patients and individual staff records must not, under any circumstances, be divulged or passed on to any unauthorised person or persons. The postholder must respect patient named confidentiality.

DATA PROTECTION: The postholder must at all times respect the confidentiality of information in line with the requirements of the Data Protection Act. This includes, if required to do so, obtain, process and/or use information held on a computer in a fair and lawful way, to hold data only for the specified registered purposes and to use or disclose data only to authorised persons or organisations as instructed.

GENERAL: The postholder will be expected to comply with all statutory legislation.

The postholder will be expected to be responsible for his/her continuing professional development and to take a proactive approach to maintaining personal and professional effectiveness in an evolving role.
